Meet Our Captains

Ady Clarke, Gent’s Captain 2021/22

It is with great pleasure that I offer you a warm welcome to our over 100 years old Hawarden Golf Club which boasts a picturesque setting of ponds, streams and woodland with an undulating terrain offering a challenging variety of risk and reward holes for all players irrespective of age and ability. There are wonderful views of the surrounding countryside featuring a variety of wildlife, with glimpses of the historical Hawarden Castle.

Visitors enjoy playing at our club and frequently return commenting favourably on the unique and challenging course. Our goal is to offer members, visitors and societies a great round of golf with an enjoyable sociable experience afterwards in a warm and friendly environment. We have many longstanding and valued members including a Ladies and a Junior section who regularly take advantage of this pleasant parkland course. We also hold weekly competitions and there is a very active social calendar including quiz nights, dinners and entertainment. Non golfers can of course become social members and we extend a warm invitation to one and all to pay us a visit and enjoy our hospitality. We look forward to meeting you for a rewarding and unique game of golf.

The club is situated off the A55, six miles from Chester in the village of Hawarden which provides an excellent starting or ending point for groups wanting to play the North Wales courses and if you would like to join us please contact our Professional – Alex.

Sarah Walton, Lady Captain 2021

My name is Sarah Walton and I am honoured and delighted to be appointed as Lady Captain for 2021 at such a young age.

I have been a member at HGC for just under 20 years and first became interested in golf after hitting a few golf balls at a driving range while on holiday with my parents.  Upon our return I had some lessons with Alex and it developed from there!!

Due to the Covid pandemic we experienced a very strange golf year in 2020.  However Eileen kept the morale up in the ladies section  by delivering themed gifts and organising activities for us all. She will be a very hard act to follow.

Who knows what challenges this year will bring ? But rest assured the ladies committee is dedicated and determined to make this year the best possible.

As soon as it’s allowed, we will get ladies’ competitions up and running. We have lots of ideas and plans for social get togethers and hopefully will be able to start holding socials before too long. It will be great to be able to play mixed competitions and it will be good to all meet up again!

Don’t worry my lockdown has not been wasted.  I have been practising making and inventing cocktails and am ready to show off my skills at our first social event – the Ladies Cocktail Evening which traditionally kicks off the year.

I hope to see you all very soon,

Sarah Walton, HGC Lady Captain 2021
